Clay compiles data from multiple sources and refreshes profile data millions of times a day. The refresh rate varies based on several factors, including how frequently contacts are visited, how often they've historically changed their data, and other signals. On average, Clay refreshes data for a profile every few months, though this could be as frequent as weekly or as infrequent as yearly.
Occasionally, data sources return incorrect or incomplete information. These are especially prevalent with:
- Newly created email addresses (e.g. jane@mynewcompany.com)
- Common names (e.g. jane.doe@gmail.com)
- Anonymous email addresses (e.g. jane@protonmail.com)
- Social accounts with changed usernames (e.g. linkedin.com/in/janedoe → linkedin.com/in/janedoe123)
If data is ever incorrect or missing, you can edit or clear a card to make sure Clay presents you with the most up-to-date information. Social media profiles (e.g. Twitter) are particularly helpful to fix since Clay will automatically add info from those sources if we have a URL.
You can also manually refresh info immediately — go to Edit Profile and select Refresh Profile. Clay will then refresh the latest information on that profile and update the photo, education and work history, bio, and more.
If you prefer a more aggressive and automatic refresh, you also have the option to upgrade to Aura.
